Take a H.I.K.E

Have you been taking notes on the H.I.K.E. Series? We have. Here’s some help for you get closer to God through prayer. Go ahead, take a hike!

  • H = Hide and Seek - Point: You need to set aside time to talk with God. Although you shouldn’t be afraid to pray in front of others, you should spend most of your prayer time alone with God. You can pray any time, any place, but choose a prayer spot for yourself to get alone with God. Use this time to seek to be closer to Him. Jesus IS God and He even set aside time to spend alone with God, so we should too. (Check out Matthew 6:6)
  • I = Include Variety and Intercession - Point: Just like our body needs a good variety of foods to stay healthy and grow, our prayer life needs some variety. The Lord’s Prayer is a pattern of things to include when we talk to God. Thanksgiving, praise, intercession, confession, adoration, asking, seeking, listening. All of these things have a place in our prayers. We can get stuck in a rut of just praying one way all the time. We need to consciously mix it up to enjoy a healthier relationship with God in prayer. (Check out Luke 11)
  • K = Know Him Enough to Trust Him - Point: Sometimes we feel weird talking to God. We don’t know what to say or what to talk about. That’s because we don’t know Him well enough. We have lots to talk to our friends about because we know them really well. You have to pray a lot to get more comfortable with God. Knowing God leads us to trust Him. When we are faced with difficult times, we will be sure that God will be there for us. We will trust him because we have gotten to know Him so well. (Check out Psalm 9)
  • E - ?

What’s the last part of the hike?  Come on in and find out in our last Sunday of the Semester.  Sunday night at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. (both j.v. and varsity)

See you then!
